Tim Ryuko Langdell, Roshi, has practiced Zen since 1970 and studied with a wide variety of teachers in the Japanese Soto tradition as well as in the Chinese Chan, Vietnamese Thien, and Korean Seon traditions. He received Dharma Transmission from Daiho Roshi who gave him the title Roshi, and from Al Rapaport who gave him the title Sensei.
Tim is an author who has written a number of books on Zen. He was trained as both a Physicist and a Psychologist and holds a PhD in Psychology by University College, London as well as an MDiv from Claremont School of Theology. In the past, Tim has practiced as a psychologist and undertook some of the early work on the study of autism spectrum disorder in the 1970s. More recently Tim became a Board-Certified Chaplain and has worked as both a children’s hospital chaplain and as a hospice chaplain.
Tim founded the Still Center Zen Order as a branching off of Daho Roshi’s Order of Clear Mind Zen founded in the lineage of Soyu Matsuoka, Roshi. Still Center Zen based in Southern California has affiliates in Belgium, Germany and Italy with other affiliates continually being included in its worldwide meta sangha which continues to grow. Tim completed the koan curricula (Rinzai method) in both the Korean tradition of Zen Master Seung Sahn and in the Soto Zen White Plum Asanga tradition of Maezumi Roshi.
