Mary Carol is a senior member of the Houston Zen Center in Texas. She began practicing with HZC in 1998 after many fortuitous nudges in the direction of studying the dharma. She received the Precepts from Reb Anderson Roshi in 2000, served as Shuso in 2016, and received Lay Entrustment from Gaelyn Godwin Roshi in 2016. Mary Carol is the mother of a son, Benjamin, now venturing into the world after college. Mary Carol seeks to integrate her practice of the teachings of the Buddha with her work in restoring coastal prairies and wetland creating of stormwater treatment wetlands. She is a Field Biologist and Program Coordinator with the Texas A&M Extension Service and Texas Sea Grant.
