Martine Taikai received full transmission (denbo) as an independent Soto Zen teacher in the White Plum Asanga lineage in 2019. Studying with Sensei Rosemary Myoan Dougherty for 17 years at One Heart Sangha in Silver Spring MD, and after serving as one of the guiding teachers along with Sensei Bob Ertman, Martine founded Joyful Mind Zendo in 2023 to serve her local community in Rockville MD. She is also a preceptor serving a lay community of Zen students.
A retired Federal HR manager working in employment law and conflict resolution, and former educator, she enjoys gardening, yoga, cycling, and playing with her granddaughters. She also founded a women’s sangha called the Tea Ladies.
