Marisa Seishin Cespedes, Sensei, began practicing meditation in the mid-90s and joined Still Mind Zendo in 2003, becoming a student of Roshi Janet Jiryu Abels. In 2008, she received Jukai, the Buddhist Precepts, and in January 2013, she became a Dharma holder. She received Denbo-Dharma Transmission in April 2016, becoming Roshi Janet's first dharma successor. At that time, she also received Lay Denkai. Her dharma name, Seishin, means Clear Heart.

Sensei Marisa was born and raised in Mexico City and is a freelance journalist. In 1988 she moved to New York City where she worked for decades as a news correspondent and bureau chief for an international television network. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
