Ryuko Laura Burges, a lay entrusted dharma teacher in the Soto Zen tradition, teaches classes, lectures, and leads retreats in Northern California. Her teacher is Eijun Linda Cutts. Laura taught children for thirty-five years, mentoring other teachers, and co-founded the Meditation in Recovery programs at Zen Center. Her most recent book from Shambhala Publications is Wisdom Stories of Tibet, part of a three-part series that will include Wisdom Stories from India and Japan. Other titles from Shambhala: The Zen Way of Recovery: An Illuminated Path Out of the Darkness of Addiction; Buddhist Stories for Kids; and Zen for Kids. She is a fellow at Dorland Mountain Arts Colony and has been an adjunct professor of education at University of the Pacific and Holy Names University.
