Bob began studying Zen in 1970 at a college sesshin with Joshu Sasaki Roshi, then with Omori Roshi in Tokyo, but he didn't find his root teacher until meeting Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1988 at Berkeley Zen Center. Bob has received lay entrustment from Sojun, and subsequently received denkai in Ordinary Mind Zen from Karen Terzano. He also is a lineage heir of Master Hui Liu in Dayan Qigong. Bob practices a blend of Soto and Ordinary Mind Zen with a healthy dose of Taoism. Bob is a retired neuropsychologist and psychotherapist. He is the author of Zen and the Heart of Psychotherapy; Walking the Way: 81 Zen Encounters with the Tao Te Ching; What's Wrong with Mindfulness (and What Isn't) (co-edited with Barry Magid); and That is Not Your Mind: Zen Reflections on the Surangama Sutra.
